Istanbul, Turkey
Istanbul serves as a major hub for flights to Russia. Both Turkish and Russian airlines operate numerous flights from Istanbul. Keep in mind that Istanbul has two airports, IST and SAW, which are quite far apart. Sometimes, it can be cost-effective to have a stopover in Istanbul, change airports, and save money. Consider booking separate flights to Istanbul and Moscow, and check Russian ticket sales websites like OneTwoTrip, Aviasales, or the Aeroflot website for the Russian leg of your journey.
Bodrum, Antalya, Dalaman (Turkey)
While Istanbul is popular, you can also explore smaller airports in popular Turkish destinations. During the summer, there are plenty of flights from Europe and Russia to Bodrum, Antalya, and Dalaman. If your local airport in Europe offers flights to the south of Turkey, it is worth considering this option. Remember to create your own combinations of two tickets, one for the European part and another for the Russian part of your journey.
Armenia, Georgia, Azerbaijan
These countries provide excellent stop-over options. They have good connectivity with Europe, particularly through WizzAir airlines. From our experience, the best options are available at Yerevan airport (EVN), but it’s also worth checking flights to Georgia and Azerbaijan.
Belgrade, Serbia
Belgrade is the only city in mainland Europe that offers direct flights to Russia. Air Serbia operates flights to Moscow, St. Petersburg, and Sochi. This option is convenient and fast, but it can also be more expensive compared to other choices.
UAE, Qatar, Bahrain, Oman
The Middle East countries offer a range of direct flight options to Moscow. Our preferred choice is the Abu Dhabi-Moscow route provided by Etihad Airlines. This summer, they have return flights starting from $400, and you can enjoy a five-star service onboard. Emirates also offers direct flights, but they tend to be more expensive. Don’t forget to explore other countries in the region as well, although their offerings are usually more limited compared to UAE-based companies. This can be a great option for travelers coming from Africa.
India, China
If you are traveling from India, China, or other countries in the Asian region, consider yourself lucky, as they often offer the most reasonable prices for long-haul direct flights to Moscow. Return tickets can be found for as low as $250.
Casablanca, Morocco
Don’t overlook this unexpected option! Casablanca, Morocco, offers direct flights to Moscow operated by Royal Air Maroc. This can be a comfortable and reasonably priced alternative, especially if you’re traveling from South America, Africa, or Southern Europe.
Once you’ve booked your flights, it’s time to plan your itinerary and activities in Moscow. The city is home to numerous popular attractions, including Red Square, the Kremlin, and St. Basil’s Cathedral. Our award-winning “Moscow Must-See’s” private tour covers these iconic landmarks and many more, ensuring you make the most of your visit.
